WHAT IS
YOGA?
- Yoga is an ancient
Indian practice which has been adapted in the West to help individuals become
more conscious of balancing and harmonizing physical, mental, emotional and
spiritual well-being.
- The word " Yoga" means
union-- union between all dimensions of the self. This union is accomplished
by performing postures or "asanas" and breathing exercizes or "pranayama" as
well as relaxation, visualization and meditation.
- The body is moved with
utmost care into the postures accompanied by deep rhythmic breathing.
- Yoga is a process not a
goal. It is never forced, competitive or judgmental. Be gentle with yourself
and practice each stretch at your own level and breathe.
- Yoga requires no special
equipment other than a yoga mat and a pillow. It can be done almost anywhere.
